A public library in small town America is beginning to become a thing of the past. The City of Timber Lake has been fortunate to have one since 1911 when a small library was opened in a church, with many donations of books and magazines just as it is today. Then in 1924, a public library opened and has been in different locations in the city.
In 1987 the Historical Society members and the Dewey County Library board met and applied for a grant in the amount of $39,000 from the State Library to build a new county library. This was a matching grant that was matched by local funds. The New Library was opened December 1988 and dedicated in January 1989.
In February 1998, with the help of Roger Lawien the library received a grant for there first computers. Today the library offers eight computers with internet access free for public use. Timber Lake Broadband proudly offers the free internet to library. We encourage everyone to stop and see what the library has to offer.
